Scrapbox Homepage

During my tenure at Helpfeel Inc. in Kyoto, Japan, I assumed the role of Art Director for a website rebrand project centered around the Scrapbox app—a web application serving as a team wiki and rapid knowledge base.

Challenge

The design challenge was to create a website that would resonate with both businesses and casual users while effectively conveying the distinctive spirit of the software and its use cases. The goal was to integrate the product vision and ethos seamlessly into the branding and style guide, avoiding an overly explicit approach.

Solution

To reach my solution, I considered Scrapbox as a free-form information sharing tool, designed with minimal constraints or rigid structures. As users collect and interlink data, it naturally adopts a unique structure influenced by the creator or creators. The metaphorical inspiration behind the illustrations lies in natural organic structures. Each element corresponds to structures created by animals in the natural world, such as dams, webs, ant hills, etc. The impact of this design approach was to visually convey the tool's inherent flexibility and adaptability, aligning with its user-driven and organic nature.

The new design style resonated well with the existing loyal user base, effectively setting Scrapbox apart from competing products.
